Comment | There are probably more Vietnamese people in Glasgow than people realise.
It’s a tragedy but a lot of them were originally trafficked to the UK to work in weed farms and money laundering activities (think nail bars etc..)
The Ferret done a good article about it here

Years ago I traveled through Vietnam and can’t remember seeing much evidence of Catholicism so out of curiosity I checked how prevalent it was, according to Wikipedia only 7.6% of Vietnamese are catholic.
Apparently most of the Catholics are centred around the larger urban areas.
No source for this but if it’s anything like Afghanistan/Thailand/India or China then I’d imagine the people who are trafficked are more likely to come from poorer rural areas.
So while there may be a Vietnamese community I wouldn’t imagine there would be a huge number of Catholics.
Just a theory though so could be wrong.
However if you’re looking for a diverse congregation then St Aloysius in Garnethill or St Helen’s/Mary Immaculate in the south side are good bets.
Good luck!! |
