I agree, bit of a weird first thought, until I saw the bars on the windows and difficult exit routes.

The year I moved to Glasgow, 2 students died in a flat fire - no smoke alarms, bars on windows. There was a lot of coverage about unlicensed landlords and I think the council changed criteria as a result.

I admit it seems a strange first thought, but this always stuck in my mind. My issue is with unlicensed landlords (and the issues of not complying with laws that are there to save your life), and not the takeaway specifically.

A more important issue for the OP - an unlicensed landlord answers to nobody, so is not likely to repair anything, and you will probably not see your deposit again.
