For a start, if you want to go into research. Another is just having a passion of a more academic bent. Or it just makes sense for you at this juncture.

Going to uni will probably not be *wrong* as such, but it does send one down a certain path. If I could have, I'd have had a year or two after college to decide what I wanted out of like, but that wasn't an option for me.

If you've decided you want to do CompSci because you like it and want to learn more, have at it. If you're only doing it for an easy life of £600+ day rates tunnelling through seven VPNs, then reality is going to come as a nasty shock.

I'm not saying don't go to uni, I'm saying EB sure of your reasons.
