The price cap applies to variable tariffs and not to fixed-rate ones, so it's unlikely you got a better fixed-rate deal than being on the variable tariff, unless you're talking about being on some 2-year deal from before this all began. The advice is generally not to take out any fixed-rate deal for the foreseeable future, and to default to variable tariff when your current deal expires.
