Glas to hear you're getting by. Perhaps younger people with no kids who live in a well insulated house and don't heat rooms when you're not using them can get by easier. But despite individual preferences, the hard maths is pretty straightforward - pre-pay meters cost more than regular meters. The competitive tariffs and ability to switch suppliers are options just not realistically available to most of the households that have them fitted. 'Heat or Eat' isn't a soundbite, it's something tens of thousands of families have to decide between October and March.
I'd be curious to learn what your winter consumption costs.
