But see. That’s the problem. If everyone picks and chooses the traffic laws they want to adhere to, no one is safe. There’s no reason for bikes not to use the road. As long as your bike is properly kitted out (lights!) and you’re wearing something hi-vis, riding on the road is perfectly safe. You can’t go over Kingston bridge, but you’re not supposed to. All other roads are totally fine.
It’s just down to personal anxiety, but that’s not a reason to break traffic laws. I never felt unsafe biking in Glasgow, but I stick to the rules.
We expect cars to stick to the rules (and get rightfully upset if they don’t) and we need to do the same. That includes stopping at red lights by the way. Otherwise it’s just chaos.
