Finished my digital security degree at caley 2 years ago and I'm currently working as a data engineer for a big ISP.

For me the bit of paper is the only thing worth going to GCU for.
The modules in the compsci courses aren't long or detailed enough for you to get any actual knowledge out of it. You'll get the fundamentals of pretty much everything you need but depending on which industry you want to go into you'll really need to do a lot of self-teaching.

Pretty much all my knowledge required to pass the interview for my current job came from my third-year internship and the work done there.

What I will say is that most tech companies in the industry don't give a fuck about qualifications (aside from maybe the big players like morgan stanley, IBM, cisco etc). You'll pass job interviews on technical knowlegde and not much more. That being said though having the degree was a great way to get my foot in the door at least.

I'd recommend you go for it, you've got all the time in the world to work your way up in a full time job, go to uni now while you're young, get as many bursarys as you can on top of the max student loan and pay your parents that way.

I think I was getting about 800 quid a month from student loan/saas when I lived with my maw n da which was more than enough to cover my stupid spending habits.
