What type of jobs are you applying for? The way you write your CV has a lot to do with it. Make sure you have a short paragraph at the beginning describing your skills and experience reverent to that role.

Some jobs, for example shop assistant roles, tend to attract huge numbers of applicants - I’m talking well over 1000 applicants to one advert.
I work in a skilled role and we advertised for an entry level admin position and got over 300 applicants. There really were only a handful out of those 300 that were in any way suitable to even invite to interview and even then it was a painful process.
