Children are all individuals and should be raised as such, because there isn't a one size fits all approach to parenting individuals. You and your children are not proof that one method of parenting is the correct method for every child.

If every issue was as simple as doing things as a family or finding a hobby then child councillors and psychologists would be out of a job. The modern phenomenon of parents viewing themselves as childcare professionals is damaging. Unless you actually work in the childcare or child psychology sector, please don't preach like your childcare experience is anything but anecdotes. If you do work in the field, please share research instead of using anecdotes - they aren't helpful and provide no framework to help parents emulate good parenting techniques.

I appreciate you trying to help people with your comment, and it's fantastic to hear that you are using parenting techniques that work for you and are not damaging. I honestly mean that. However, if you would care to preach less and read more, you'd notice I said violence has been proven to have a negative impact on some children. I am not an advocate, I do not hit children. You are preaching to the choir in a know-it-all, condescending tone.

To make it unequivocally clear to you: the point that is being made is that while spanking children is bad, it is better than no parenting or discipline at all.

There is currently a wave of parents who do nothing to address their children's bad behaviours, including all the methods you suggested.

The point is that these parents seem to give themselves a pat on the back because they don't spank their kids, and think this means they are brilliant parents, even though their parenting style is similarly damaging.
