The easiest surf beaches to reach from Glasgow are over on the east coast Dunbar etc. and I think there is a surf school their where you could lessons/ hire stuff. Just check the conditions on magic seaweed before you go (search Dunbar forecast magic seaweed) and be prepared to drop everything when it’s good.
