The guy who came out and said "It's all got to come off" is correct. If the entire bathroom needs to come out is another matter. First, the source of the damp needs to be found. Otherwise any repair is temporary. Is every wall effected? Or some more so than others? If some more than others, what bathroom fittings are beside those walls.

It could be lack of ventilation. Does the water flow down your walls in rivulets after every shower? Is the window always dripping wet inside?

Poor sealing and waterproofing. Is the mold mostly around the top of a bath or shower tray or sink but not so bad on the opposite walls away from sources of water?

Structural water ingress from outside, vial a room, ceiling wall or window. Leaky pipe or waste fittings.

I have used cheapo thin unscented bleach (Asda value range type stuff) to kill light surface mold quite effectively in the past. If its into any timber or beneath any surface those all need to come off and be exposed to bleach and air and should be sprayed down with said bleach. The whole thing needs to be exposed and totally dry out before remediation work starts. A dehumidifier will help. Don't breathe in any potentially fatal bleach vapour (chlorine gas) and be very careful of lungs, eyes and skin.
