| Comment | I grew up in Coatbridge too so get your point here, always found it funny when I went to Uni in Glasgow when people thought I lived halfway to Edinburgh and in reality I could wake up, get ready and be in the city centre in 40 mins (17 min express from sunnyside)

Think because there was originally a large gap between Glasgow and Coatbridge that mentally people think it’s totally separate, especially before easterhouse, barlanark were built.
Now though with all the new estates there’s absolutely nothing between them, I lived in Baillieston for a while and my kids school catchment was still in Coatbridge.
The thing with the place now is that it seems like two societies there, you get the richer folk living in the new estates and spend most of their lives in Glasgow and Edinburgh then the people who actually live in the town and spend their time there.
Plus there’s a unique subculture there that’s looked down upon, again probably through implicit sectarianism if I’m honest. |
