Yes? There's hardly any shops that exclusively only take cards (...and that's usually because their machines are broken).

I'd also say though, if you are new to the UK, that having physical money on you may help when shopping too. For the sake of some shops preferring that over cards. Usually its the smaller ones if your purchase is too low - as I've been told they have to pay fees for debit card payments, which put them at a loss if the sale is only worth a few Pounds.
