City centre and west end are the most expensive areas to rent. But Glasgow and the surrounding areas have good transport links. I went to Glasgow uni (west end) for 5 years without a car, and I lived in the southside. Would have been even easier if I’d gone to Caledonian uni. So if you look beyond west end and city centre you’ll find somewhere cheaper.

Yes there are increases in cost of living and it’s likely to get worse. However my understanding is that the base cost of living in Scandinavian countries has been higher than Britain for a long time, so that might impact what you consider comparable. These are stupid comparison but it’s what I have available (partner has been working a few days a month in Oslo recently). In Oslo, A pint of beer is about 33-50% more expensive. A meal deal in McDonald’s is up to twice as expensive. I have no idea if any of this is helpful
