For accommodation you could have a look at Shawland as well. They have a bit more space there without the competition from the students etc. £1000 will get you a larger space too. For west end you might struggle a bit with that budget. Rooms are going for £550 without bills at minimum.

What do you do for a living at the moment? There are a couple of fancy wine places round but I think the chances is that you would be on just above minimum wage which can be a bit grim in the UK compare to Nordic countries.
