We wash our indoor food bin out very frequently. We also clean out our brown food and garden waste bin each time it i emptied, about once a month. However we live on a row of terraced houses where not everyone is as clean. The fruit flies are breeding in the outside food bins, especially those that are not being cleaned or even where people aren’t cleaning jars and tins well enough. The flies from our neighbours bin can get into our bin even if the lid is down so as soon as we put a food waste bag in they are back. They then fly in to our home through open windows. Ordinary house flies have been worse this year as well. New food bins only being emptied once a month is definitely part of the issue.
