Agreed - I do contract work so my salary varies massively. The last year I’ve been on more than I could have imagined (double previous salary) but all I’ve done is sort my life out (double glazed crap windows in the flat, replaced old stuff, leased a cheap car etc). I’m at the end of that contract now and looking at returning to normal salaries and tbh I can categorically say that the money made me no more “happy” than I was before. All i’m looking for now is a middle ground where I’m comfortably off, not bored at work and I can have a work/ life balance that allows me to do things I actually enjoy.

High cash means constant high pressure and tbh I’d rather have a more modest life than a heart attack at 55.
