This is an interesting discussion.

I've had loads of different jobs in my life but right now my partner and I both earn £25k each giving us a household income of £50k.

My income is going up to £26.5k after a pay increase this month.

I had a job a few years ago where I earned £25k and it was worth a lot more then than it is now.

Once my rent and debt is paid I've not got much for saving/emergencies. It's a small price to pay after a bit of a career change two years ago and I'll work my way up the ladder quickly, I think, but £25k is usually the sort of standard "it'll be okay" wage. It's not anymore. It's getting more difficult to live off. I'm setting my sights on jobs that are at least £30k next because the extra £300 a month would make a real difference to me and my other half and actually put us in a good position for a mortgage etc.

So I think £35k would be the point I stop worrying so much about going out for dinner in the second last week of the month.
