So it's not that we are being offered a mortgage at that, but when you first meet with a mortgage advisor they will take into account earnings and any savings and do some calculations to show what you *could* borrow if you wanted. We went to the advisor first specifically for that so, when looking at houses, we knew what sort of range of prices we could realistically afford.
