I've not bought anywhere else, so how does Scotland differ to other places, what could we be learning?

Completely agree with what you are saying though, if my Grandpa hadn't died I wouldn't have been able to buy a house and that's the end of it. It makes it all a bit strange that in a way I'm "lucky" to have been able to get that money, but I would rather he was still with us. If people don't have some sort of "unexpected" money, it's really hard to get that first step. I know a lot of people say to move out of the city to cheaper areas, it's not all people wanting to be near fancy coffee shops, but having family and friends nearby is really important for people in case they run into issues, so it's not always realistic for someone to up sticks and move across the city to somewhere they don't know, with no support network just because that's all they can afford.
