| Comment | I was referred to the Arndale Resource Centre by my GP on the back of a recommendation from therapist in the community I was attending for CBT, and I feel like I got a completely substandard level of care - Psychiatrist was really dismissive, kept interrupting me when I was trying to explain sometimes difficult things, answered the phone during the consultation as I was explaining how I'd go about killing myself to debate with the guy installing her windows about prices, and was ultimately dismissed with the words that unless I was in and out of jail and couldn't maintain any relationships then they wouldn't see me or give me any medication and so a diagnosis was pointless. I'm genuinely glad to hear you've had a better experience because it genuinely put me off seeking any further help from the Psychiatry services.
My favourite line was when I explained that I was rapidly accruing debt because I'd take a notion, get a rapid loan of a few grand and just spend it and deal with the consequences later, Psychiatrists reply was - 'Life's hard, treat yourself'. Got the total impression of we're only there to pick up the pieces, if you're in the process of falling apart then just tell us once you're close to killing yourself and maybe we'll bother to help. |
