"way worse" - a few degrees colder, more rain and less daylight. If you found London tough in January, then you won't enjoy it here. Around March it begins to improve, but we don't have consistent weather at any time of year. You could come in August and have two weeks of rain. If the weather is a concern for you, then you are better off looking at somewhere further south. If you can get a visa to work there, Lisbon like someone suggested would be a dream for me. I love the North of Spain too - still some rain to keep things green, but you actually see the sun for a few hours most days even in winter.
