It is has been common practice in the places I have lived. I can't give precise numbers unfortunately because I don't really ask people about their delivery habits in social situations. It doesn't make for stimulating conversation.
You are correct. I don't have any life experience because sometimes there is a parcel in my front hall with a little smiley face drawn on it. I should get out of this bubble as soon as I can.
