Keep phoning, you'll get through eventually but they'll probably tell you that you have to explain it to the person who calls you on the day of jury duty.
I got an exemption a week after I'd emailed evidence over, it's slow going.
They'll specifically ask if there's any reason other than work that you can't attend though.
