I checked this for someone recently and can say that you might be better plotting your own route with luggage. My pal got routed through the tube network by the planner tools.
The route I would recommend is
1. Gatwick Airport to London St Pancras on ThamesLink
2. 5 minute walk from St Pancras to Euston
3. Euston to Glasgow on Avanti
The apps seemingly all try to recommend a route through Victoria (which may seem on paper quicker but will be more expensive and involve the tube).
