How the discount is applied is different depending on who you are with, if you are a standard or smart meter and if how you pay. Pre pay customers are also different. They are not all a simple bill credit.

However I am with Scottish power they should have sent you an email explaining how your discount works. They also have an FAQ page if you did not get the discount. The answer is on this page.

I am a standard meter customer (not smart), on monthly direct debit. The way it works for this type of customer is they take the full amount and then 5 working days later they will send the £66 to your bank as a refund.

What I don't understand is why all companies did not continue to take direct debit as normal and then apply the £66 to your bill. After all the point of the £400 is to cover some of the price increase. Seems strange that some reduced customer direct debits and some , like Scottish power, even returned it to bank accounts for people to blow on booze or whatever..
