Mine are fairly basic but I think they’ll keep you busy for a while. I know you said the weather brings you down and I put here some hiking/cycling but I was like you when I first got here and hiking helped me ignore the rain a lot. Just accept it’s there and be prepared - dry bag with change of clothes in your backpack is a game changer. Or leave them in work and change there. It’s gonna be difficult and I hated my guts for choosing to come here the first year but it really grew on me. Now I’m happy I can deal with rain and cold.

Places to see:

- Kelvingrove museum
- Modern Art Gallery
- Duke of Wellington statue (the one with the cone on it, he is now your holy guardian and spiritual representative. Legend has it that if that cone goes down, Glasgow will just cease to exist)
- Necropolis
- university of Glasgow has nice main building and people keep attributing it to Harry Potter stuff
- walk by the river, it’s a nice walk most of the time and you can also see the riverside museum and the science museum while you’re at it.

Things to do:

- climbing. The climbing and dry tool society are a friendly bunch that also go hiking and outdoor climbing so you’ll make friends quickly if you’re into that.
- cycling, there’s also a fairly decent cycling community around.
- this subreddit is usually friendly so maybe make a post with a hobby you have and see who takes you up on it.
- are you a student ? Universities have many clubs and societies you can join and they do both events for the sport or hobby you joined and also nights out to drink and socialise.
- not exactly Glasgow but Loch Lomond and a bunch of easy hills are just 45 min/an hour bus or train ride away. They’re a nice walk but careful now as the weather is getting worse. There’s plenty of [guides](https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/) on the internet that describe walks and their difficulty.

Finally, don’t underestimate the effect the Glasgow weather has on your mental state. All the new people in my work who come in spend the first three weeks asking why the rain is so violent and when does it stop. Use the subway whenever possible and the buses. If you time it right, they can be quite handy. I was lucky enough to get a car last year and it made all the difference when it came to going somewhere.

Get yourself a good waterproof jacket and shoes if you can (umbrella too but most times the wind will destroy it or make it redundant).

Also make sure to take vitamin D. Scotland is in a weird place on the map where even when there is sun, it’s rays come in at a weird angle and you don’t get as much vitamin D as most places in the world.

Hope you enjoy the city :)
