Nothing to do with hookers and Red Light Districts. It used to be opened all the time, until about 7-8 years ago. It was treated like a rubbish bin by office workers having their lunch on nice days. Now it does get opened over the summer. There has to be a few nice days in a row before it is opened, because there are groundskeepers that look after it and patrol when it is open. (I assume it isn’t financially viable to have someone patrolling every day, when it pisses down so often).

This place is maintained very well and the issue in the past has been the hard work in the spring (planting bulbs and shrubs etc) is undone in a few days by fuckers ruining it.

The final straw, as I remember, was during the Occupy protests against the banks. George Square was occupied by tents and protestors who eventually got moved on (someone was raped in the protestors camp in George Square, and shortly after it was moved due to Remembrance Day events). They relocated to the Blythswood Square Garden

They fucking wrecked the place. Folk were shitting in the flower beds. Place got closed permanently once the protestors were moved on.

It’s not the only private residents garden in Glasgow. I don’t think it is necessarily right that our ‘Dear Green Places’ cannot be enjoyed by the people, but if it was my money getting wasted by repeatedly replacing the hard work put in to making a nice space, I’d fucking close it too.
