To be honest I’d go out on a limb and say for a few specific areas of leisure Glasgow trumps London. London’s got fantastic nightlife but getting tickets to the top club nights with guest DJ’s is prohibitively expensive and far more competitive than it is here. I got to see Larry Heard smash out an incredible set with an amazing vocalist and keyboard player in probably the most intimate setting the show’s ever been done in (Subby) without having to set my alarm for tickets. Last night I saw one of my favourite non local bands in Tuts for a tenner after only finding out about the gig the day before.
On top of this there’s amazing open spaces like Rouken Glen, Pollok Park, Queen’s Park, Linn Park etc. Free to enter, never overly crowded with tourists or locals (only perhaps on a hot day in QP) and world class open areas of natural beauty to enjoy without even leaving town.
If you make the effort to explore what the city has to offer you’ll never be sitting at home with nothing to do, even if you’re a bit skint as there’s enough free amenities to take advantage of as well.
