I was born and brought up in Glasgow also. I lived in Switzerland for 5 years and even though CH is a great country I was always home sick for Glasgow. When I left Glasgow I had a similar attitude to you but realised that for all its faults Glasgow isn't that bad.
Now I'm back in Glasgow and I miss Switzerland a fair bit.
Conclusion is I'm a miserable bastard wherever I am.
