So first and foremost I think you’ve done the right thing in going to their landlord first.
This sounds like a breach of the Housing Act. As she suspects they may be immigrants, there is a knock on could be a breach of their Leave (their visa status). I think that, in your circumstances, if you’re comfortable with it, you ought to speak to them directly. It should set alarm bells ringing for them and correct for the problem. Only then I might raise it to an official. Don’t want to blow up their stay in the country without giving them the chance to correct it.
BTW Get the landlord blow-off in writing. They are required to know their tenant’s immigration status AND ensure that their property is occupied in accordance with statute. This is a pretty heinous breach of both. |
