Comment | You can demand an integrated ticketing system but it will fall on deaf ears. These services are ran by private companies and operated as profit making businesses for the benefit of their owners/shareholders. Until the Government re-regulate then it is just not going to happen. You can’t walk in to McDonalds and pay them for a meal but demand that Burger King provide the fries. Just like you can’t pay McGills for a day ticket and demand First take you the rest of the way. You can buy a Zonecard ticket (single ticket) that is valid across bus, rail, subway and ferries in Strathclyde. No need for 4 different tickets. The SPT daytripper ticket was removed due to lack of demand. It is a free market because any company can register to operate a service on any route. An upset group of bus users for example could all group together and invest in a new start up - Glasgow Reddit Buses Ltd - and run their own service. Imagine Shawlands Cross - Queen Margaret Drive via Best Kebab. Local councillors are a waste of your time. They are not taken seriously and will get the same response from the bus companies that you get, with maybe the additional courtesy of a meeting for a photo opportunity here and there. They often don’t have a clue what they are talking about anyway. 1 - Raise your complaint to the bus company in the first instance. 2 - if no response within 2 weeks or the response is unsatisfactory, contact the [Bus Users Organisation](https://bususers.org/passengers/complaints/complaints-process/). Bus companies actually take note when Bus Users escalate issues. If you think buses companies are failing to operate their registered services, or uphold their license conditions you can make a complaint to Claire Gilmore the Scottish Area Traffic Commissioner. But be aware, she is well aware of the national bus driver shortage and she will not take complaints like “my bus didn’t turn up on Saturday morning.” If you are going to the traffic commissioner, it should only be for serious breaches of an Operators License. Bus stops - Unfortunately too much vandalism to stops, the volume and cost to implement and maintain, it makes electronic displays on EVERY stop unviable. As for the First Bus app, there has been technical issues last weekend and today. That is down to 3rd party providers. Last week was a server issue. |
