Please don’t buy a dehumidifier. The black mould is, sadly, entirely your fault. An adult puts out 1.5 litres of moisture per day (mainly from breathing but also sweat, cooking, showering and cooking).

This moisture will condense on the coldest parts of your house. This is typically windows and then the lower parts of your internal parts of external walls.

You need to ventilate your place 24hrs a day, even in winter. This water has to escape or it will form as mould and make you ill. Ideally you’ll need trickle vents on every single window. You’ll also need to open opposing windows (at opposite sides of your property) at least once a day for 5-10 minutes to let the air run through.

If you ever see condensation on your windows, even in the morning, then that’s a major sign that you’re not ventilating properly. I know it seems strange to open windows when it’s cold but it’s what you have to do.

You absolutely should never get mould, condensation or need a dehumidifier
