| Comment | I think it died out when hat wearing in general went out of vogue. Now hats are coming back into fashion but they don't carry the same implications as they used to. Since the hat you wear isn't a sign of your "class" anymore, taking your hat off similarly doesn't mean much anymore. Times change, customs change, it's a fascinating process. |
