| Comment | So being from Aberdeen and moving to Glasgow 20 odd years ago this confused the hell out of me. The phrase "the back of" meant nothing to me, I didn't think it meant before the hour, it was just nonsensical. So here is how I've mentally rationalised it being any time between 5 past and roughly 20 past.
If I'm arranging something with someone and I'm telling them we'll meet just past the hour, the hour hasn't come yet, it is yet to come, therefore, anything after it is on the other side of the hour, the back of the hour if you will. |
