| Comment | This is interesting. I have always wanted to have a chat with someone that likes this book. I know a lot of people do as Frankie Boyle himself reposts praise about it.
I hated the book so much that I could not finish it. For some background I don't even come at it with a neutral view as I love Frankie Boyle, have consumed pretty much everything he has done on TV, have listened to him on podcasts and see him regularly a few times a year live. And despite all this, I just could not finish it. It does not read as a novel, it reads as a written down stand up. Especially because it's jokes that have already been on TV and tons of joke from his last Edinburgh show, which is basically all the jokes from the book. The character descriptions are so shallow and have tons of those random savage jokes that in this context resemble more a mad man that goes off topic in the middle of a paragraph. The plot itself is a poorly constructed conspiracy theory that is such not because it can never necessarily be true but because of how poorly is presented and just ranted about. But most of all, I expected a better research on drug's effects and combining drugs that go beyond the basic understanding of this one makes you go up and this one down. |
