| Comment | Hamilton has a lot of deprivation and problems, it amazes me that it is considered one of the better Lanarkshire towns to be honest.
Has some nice parts but for every chatelherault there’s a Burnbank or a Hillhouse.
Think it’s just because the old part of the town centre and surrounds are nicer looking than the towns that surround it (Motherwell, wishaw, Blantyre etc..).
Can’t comment on racism apart to say I’ve not seen any more or less than any other Lanarkshire town, these attitudes tend to go hand in hand with deprivation though (at least in public).
But I know a lot of people who have bought houses in Lanarkshire as you get more for your money and end up in nice new estates with good road links then when their kids go to school reality bites that they’re in areas with lots of problems and feel like outsiders.
Suppose that’s the trade off though, Lanarkshire will never be an east Renfrewshire, east Dunbartonshire, Dunblane or Hyndland as it’s impossible to live there in the king of safe middle class bubble some people want.
Having said all that there’s worse places than Hamilton, you could live in Airdrie |
