You have to show your ticket to get into the standing section. Once you're into the main atrium there is separate security for upstairs and standing. So your tickets are scanned twice - once at the main entrance and once at the internal entrance for either balcony or standing. But once the main act has started the security are a bit less diligent. Certainly not guaranteed though.
