I agree with everyone saying go to Krakow, it’s the best option. You’re in a city with great museums and street markets, but close enough to take a day trip to Auschwitz.
A lot of people don’t know this, but Auschwitz is free to enter, you just need a ticket (you need to book quite far in advance so check now). The only time you need to pay a fee is if you want a tour guide to walk you around and explain everything to you. If you prefer taking your time and going at your own pace, book a free ticket. There’s a really good book shop outside, don’t skip this, lots of informative books in there.
A train from Krakow to Oswiecim is a little over two hours, but a return ticket cost me under £10. It’s a lot to try and do in one day though, with a flight and then the day trip. If you’re dead set on it, get an early flight then head straight to Auschwitz and book a late flight for the day after.
