Always do a second spin. Use as many clothes horses as you have space for so you can drape items over a few bars instead of one, the more spread out the clothes are the less they'll smell like damp. If you are turning the heating on at the moment put your washing close to it and then drape a bed sheet to creat a little heat tent. If you can afford it, buy a heated clothes horse for things you need to wash the night before and can't wait to dry (like a work uniform etc).

I do all these things and it still takes a long ass time for them to dry but at least they generally still smell nice by the time they're dry
