Indeed. Imagine an Ashton lane that ran from Great Western to Dumbarton Road. It would do really well, would bring in loads of tourists, and would be a really pleasant spot to spend a day. Pedestrianisation makes things nicer for people in cities and it should be done more readily. A recent study in Boston found that footfall to local business rose by 61% on average across 15 pedestrianisation projects. We should be doing it left and right honestly. George square, Stockbridge in Edinburgh, even parts of the Southside in Glasgow, should all be up for pedestrianisation projects.
