If you're new to Glasgow I'd recommend doing a bit of more casual room renting on Spareroom etc. until you work out which parts of Glasgow suit you best. When I first moved here I took a flat that was way too expensive in a dull residential area because I felt rushed to sort something (and it was highly recommended as a safe and pleasant area) and ended up totally miserable and isolated. You really need to be here in person to get a flat as they go so quickly, and once you've gone through the hassle of references, deposits etc. there's a chance you'll not be bothered moving even if it's not quite the right place for you.
