I meant it’s a no in terms of being a guaranteed answer. There’s a very good chance it’s fine though.

Traditionally British houses are fed through the rising mains which is the high pressure clean water coming from the street. It would feed the kitchen cold tap and also a tank in the loft. The loft tank would then feed all the other cold taps and also the boiler or storage heater which would then feed the hot taps, radiators and showers.

Many newer houses will have the rising mains feeding all the cold taps in the house so in that case you’d be fine. Without knowing much about your house layout, the simple test is to hold your thumb over the tap. If you can stop the water flow then it’s gravity fed from your loft. Otherwise it’s high pressure from the street.

The reason people say to not drink gravity fed water from the loft is because it’s potentially open to contamination. It’s not uncommon to find dead birds/bats/mice/squirrels in the loft water tank. It’s potentially a kind of stagnant source of water.
