I think we agree on a lot here and maybe our wires got crossed slightly.

You are right, in this case it hasn't, but many schools would indeed expel a pupil for assaulting a teacher. My point was it isn't standard practice to no longer do so.

Again, I'm not saying that a police officer, soldier , mental health nurse etc haven't signed up for that, they assume it's part of the role. What my point was that teachers have little to no control over who they teach initially based on pupils attendance being decided by catchment area . So it's outwith their control. Accordingly they have come to accept its part of the gig to have some disruptive pupils. Now, there's a difference between disruptive and assault. Of course. But just clarifying my point.

Let's be honest though, saying they are outnumbered implies there are gangs of people attacking teachers at the same time. This blatantly isn't true.

Agreed about alternative placement. They do have the right to strike...but if they aren't teaching they won't get paid indeed.
