Tbf I ignore other folk out and about generally, if someone comes up to me asking wheres good to get a pint/coffee I'll happily point them. If someone comes up in the pub at 10pm and wants to sit with my pals I'll probably redirect them.

Too high a chance you'll end up with a nutter looking for a fight, an annoying/creepy bastard or just a generally awkward situation in which you want someone to leave and they won't take the hint. I know it's unsociable and perhaps a little selfish when people are lonely and need company but I've seen it too many times.

I will say that my fiancé isn't from here and she also experiences the same as a woman, struggling to make pals and find a social group outside of my pals. Think the only people that come up to her and talk to her in public are people she wouldn't want to talk to in the first place.
