Absolutely correct. Planets within our solar (star!) System are much, much closer to Earth than stars are. There is much less cosmic interference when the source is so close. So if a shiny body in the sky stays static, and doesn't flicker like a flame, it means that it's a lot closer to Earth than a star is and the light reaching us isn't being fucked with from cosmic dust and whatnot on its way to our eyes. I think anyway, I'm now pure pished.
