Comment | My husband is English, we moved to Glasgow early last year. No issue overall, although some of the people he works with assume that he's 'posh' just because he speaks with a southern English accent. (He is not remotely plummy - he just speaks clearly and enunciates words without dropping his Ts and Hs).
There's this perception that if you're from south of the border you're 'posh' (a word I detest), rich, make mega-bucks on a London salary, that you vote Tory, etc.
Equally, when our in-laws visited for the first time last year they were stunned to discover that Glasgow isn't a warzone with folks stabbing each other day and night. |
