Ahh there are light fittings. Okay, definitely complicates things slightly but not *massively.* You'd want to disconnect the lights, then tape the bare wires and just leave them hanging down. Once you're ready to re-board the ceiling, you'd mark where you wanted the lights to sit in the new board and bore holes for them (presumably some kind of circular LED downlighter variant?) and then make sure the wires were dangling through said holes when you went to attach up the new board.

Taking back plasterboard is surprisingly easy tbh, you just get a crowbar/prybar or claw hammer and start hacking it off. It's usually held up with plasterboard screws that go into the timber frame of the room. Bit of a messy job, but throw a tarp down and it's not too painful. Then, getting the new plasterboard up is as easy as cutting it to size with a stanley knife, and firing it up with the same type of screws. Like I say, it's after *that* point, where you get someone in to skim the ceiling, that it can be costly - but depending on the size of the ceiling, I wouldn't expect it to cost more than £100 or so.

I think you'd probably surprise yourself with what you can learn when you force yourself to, and using YouTube - I absolutely did, I was not a DIY proficient person *at all* prior to renovating my flat! If you need any help, feel free to PM me!
