Some neighbours across the way from me have done this, bought all three single-end tenement flats on one floor, blocked two of the doors up and knocked walls through to make one big flat that comprises the entire floor. I imagine they did it when the flats were cheaper to buy, mind you - and I suspect there is quite a bit of planning permission wrangling required, as you'd need to arrange for supporting i-beams to go in where you'd want to knock through supporting walls, which would probably need to be winched in through the windows etc. Amazing idea though, I really wanted to buy the flat next to me when it came on the market so that I could do the same sort of thing, but the realisation that it would cost the price of the flat, plus probably another £20-30k for the planning/work, and then I'd be left with a flat that would be worth considerably *less* than the two flats as separate 1 bed entities kind of made the entire thing go sour in my mind.
