As an ED doctor I am NOT looking forward to bin day. People are already breaking their hips left right and centre; thoughts go out to the patients and the incredibly busy ortho surgeons. Please look after your frail relatives folks and don't let them venture outside onto flat ungritted surfaces without someone strong to hold on to.

1/3 of patients with broken hips end up essentially fine, 1/3 develop significant disability, and 1/3 die shortly afterwards (days-months). Worth bearing in mind.
